The Prayer

The Prayer

It was the hardest of times, the darkest of days,

Arms outstretched, for peace we prayed.

Colour, creed, race, religion,

Only brought suffering, a clear lack of vision.

Blood smeared faces, anger in our hearts,

Our narrow minded prejudices tearing us apart.

Flawed we were, ignorance we chose,

In our eyes, the light had closed,

Our lack of humanity chilling to the bone,

We had it all, it was never enough on it\'s own.

We were the children of a world that knew not how to love,

Rejecting God\'s gift of life everlasting,

In pursuit of immediate satisfaction,

An eternity of oblivion for one moment of gratification.

Now finger poised, on the trigger of destruction,

An end to all things, the final seduction.

So as the sun set on this final act,

We\'d gone too far, no turning back.

In silent prayer midst wailing cries,

All is gone, time to say goodbye.
