The Poet

Rise and Soar

As we approach your nest, we hear you screech.

We watch as some stay on the ground, while others jump and reach.

You flap your giant metal wings, soaring.

Before you leave, we hear you roaring

Stating your dominance in the sky.

It’s amazing you giant behemoths can fly.

Though you have been known to be gentle creatures.

You possess deadly features.

You have brought fear and terror to our front door.

Yet even after being grounded, you still rise and soar.

As your rise through the clouds, you put into view.

A world that we never knew.

One’s that’s above all of us.

A world where we’re bigger than a bus.

As we reach your peak, we see what you see.

Your fortress of solitude, where you flee.

You slice through the clouds, banking left and right.

Always keeping your destination in sight.

As you gracefully glide in for your landing.

You begin slowing.

You pull your beak up just as your feet hit the ground.

You let out one last sound.

You have reached your destination.
