Ghazal I

Wali Muhammad Wali

JISEY ISHQ KA TEER-E-KAARI LAGEY
USEY ZINDAGI KYOn NA BHAARI LAGEY

NA CHHODEY MOHABBAT DAM-E-MARG LAG
JISEY YAAR JANI SOOn YAARI LAGEY

NA HOWEY USEY JAG MEIn HARGIZ QARAAR
JISEY ISHQ KI BE-QARAARI LAGEY

HAR IK WAQT MUJH AASHIQ-E-PAAK KOOn
PIYAAREY TIRI BAAT PYARI LAGEY

VALI KOOn KAHEY TU AGAR YAK BACHAN
RAQEEBAAn KE DIL MEIn KATAARI LAGEY

English Translation

The one whose heart is pierced with the arrow of love
[Then] why shouldn't the life look like a burden to him?

The fixation of love doesn't withdraw from the one
Who falls in love with the sweetheart

He can never be cool and collected in this world
Who is indulged in the disquiet of love

I, the pious lover of yours, always
Love O sweetheart, every word you utter

O [my beloved!] if you talk to Vali even briefly
The rivals' hearts get wounded with envy
