Wings of Wax

duneman

Ah, dear Icarus the failure of the youth
is you do not listen to your parents
when they speak to you the truth!
Your father in his love built you
wings of feathers and of wax
"don't fly to close to the sun or you this day you'll rue."
But did you listen? Oh no! You let
your youthful exuberance overtake
commonsense and saw how close o the sun you could get!
Your father could only watch as you did not learn
and fell to your death into the sea
when your wings did melt and burn.

I feel this is more than about Icarus and his plight, but a metaphor of life and learning. well written.
