Into Her Eyes

ashley0617

They say the eyes are the window to the soul.

She often wonders what people see when they look into her eyes.

Do they see the pain she felt and feels?

Do they see the years of self hatred and regret?

Do they see the times she prayed to die?

Her longing to be held?

However Im sure its not pain you see,

but the love she carries in a now hardened heart.

Her understanding and selflessness persevere.

How she looks into peoples eyes with compassion and respect.

The falsified beam of light from the many years of growing strength.

Each night as she lays her head down,

She yearns for the one who can truly see into her eyes.

Little does she know,

the only person who can truly see her: is herself.

  • Comment from author about the poem: I use to write poetry a lot as a child, as an outlet for my emotions. It was how I chose to express myself. This is the first poem I've written in probably 10 years. This is to all those that are broken and searching for satisfaction in others. You are your satisfaction. No one can ever truly understand your pain, just you. To find beauty within thyself is truly discovering love.
