Still Scarlett

Mike carter

Dark is the night where moonlight betrays my emotions

with tears that reflect starlight from a sombre sky

Where the wind pauses as it passes

to Deliver an icy kiss upon a cheek

Stilled as if a sentinel to an abstract emotion

Shadows tied to the wall wait for release

As I am passing by, one eye on tomorrow

And one eye on the sky

Silence then no witness to this soul here on a hill

Waiting for an answer in the place

where memories spill

Was it real I wonder that night then,  long ago

When virgin snow was falling

just as she turned to go

Yet blood I still see on my hands

and from her lips a cry

she begged of me for mercy

but the sentiment passed me by

And the fury came and the blood did flow

scarlet flowers on the ground

A pattern of deception

born of the letter that I found

Yet here I am still standing here

waiting on this hill

For fate is bound to catch me

with vengeance to fulfill

From sleep I must awaken

for this nightmare is no friend

Of images that horrify

of pain that doesn’t end

It was a dream I know it was

how could I cause her pain

But look the blood still scarlet

is flowing once again
