Flickering Light

ThomasAndrewHitchen

I am a dark corridor with flickering light

Off and on and off and on and

Endless unknown

Flashes of future obscured by present

Can’t see the wood for the trees

In a forest made darker by canopy of doubt

Brings a once proud man to his knees

But there he will not stay

He will not wallow in this pit of dismay

As he is better than that

Pull your socks up, lad

And get on with improving your life

Improving yourself

No-one will do it for you

You must do it yourself

Find a new job to improve your finances

Join a gym to improve your health

Meet some new friends to improve your confidence

Improve your surroundings to find your new self

Change the bulb in that flickering corridor

Pour the sunlight between those leaves

And bask in the glow

When you live in the dark it’s the light that you fear

But if you stay in the dark then you can never know

What the day may bring

So fly south for the winter

Find warmth and sing

As summer is here
