Fingerprints

Doll in Wonderland

So scared,

Handing you my heart,

Keep it safe, don't drop it

Once so shiny and new

Now so bruised

And smudged with greasy fingerprints

Former lover's rough, hurtful hands

Dropped and cast away

You cradle my heart

Like a wounded bird

Safe with you

I will never fly away

My heart in your hands

The dirty fingerprints wash away

Until crystal clear

Shining like glass

Bruises fade

Beautiful when you smile at me

And kiss my face

Place your fingerprints

On my heart

And stay.
