To an ex-lover

Laxcrosse

What is darkness without light?

Without comparison what shines bright?

So to what do compare my epiphany tonight?

To learn that you’re the shadow of light,

That you provide the ideal sight,

For what it is to cry and fight,

But also say i love you every night.

The highs were high

The lows were low

And all the time we learned to grow

To grow from the shambles and pain and despair

To start anew, despite previous repairs

To learn to forgive and try not to care

While seeds of distrust were always sown there.

The unfortunate thing about breaking the loop

Is the fact there is always a swoop

Of doubt or pain or longing

To reclaim that sense of belonging

That was sacrificed by previous deeds

Over and over, or so it seems

So what is the purpose to write such a poem,

To capture my feelings so others might know them.

Maybe this is fiction without any truth

All rudimentary and a little uncouth

But this was not to lead you astray

Just to share a realization i made today.

WELCOME LAX ~ Thanks for an excellent first poem. ~ elegant in style and confessional in content. This is something we can all relate to thanks for sharing. I know you will find it cathartic as I have found it helpful. For me its is always hard to se my Ex (my Soul Mate) in the arms of another ~ but in my experience the sincere love of a new lady can be very healing. Please check my poems ~ Yours BRIAN
