Val

elsiewarrenswords

Looking at her frail body,

Laid in the hospital bed.

Will she soon be joining the man that she wed?

The aroma of hospital food permeated the room,

similar to the overwhelming sadness in my mind like a fume.

The hope in her eyes when her nephew says "you look so much better,"

but who knows how it will end -

Only does the pace setter.

  • Comment from author about the poem: I was in between whether this was complete or whether I would have liked to add to it, but I decided to leave it as it is rather than meddle with it. A personal poem, true to life and me, recent too. My father's auntie val - died yesterday but the poem was wrote a few days before and now we DO know how it ended. I expected this and despite still being sad, I know what death looks like - I have seen it one too many times and therefore have my own coping mechanisms. Thanks for reading X
