The rain

thepoeticsideoflife

The rain tiptoes upon you,
And the heavens open above you,
With nothing to shelter you,
You battle on.

The rain harshly throws itself upon you,
And with no desire to ask for help you allow it,
The rain so dark and heavy shatters you on the inside,
Filling your mind with dangerous thoughts.

"Why are you here?"
You ask it loudly,
"What have I done to you?"
It seems this angers you're rain
And it's downpour continues long into the night.

Your broken heart and mind grasp for light in the ever darkening darkness,
You wonder how you could stop this,
When you built a wall the rain came through the top,
And when you hid under the branches of another,
The branches itself soaked you in their own rain.

You can't run as it follows;
You can't hide as it knows;
You fight onwards quiet,
And desolate,
Yet it still rains and it still pours.

You open you're mouth,
And suddenly close it due to the repercussions of the last,
You try to stop it,
Nothing works,
So why even try anymore?

The touch of a hand and a warm light lead you into the cover,
The more you feel the warmth,
And light instead of the cold and dark the more you feel,
And the rain passes into the oblivion.

The further into the light you stumble,
The weaker the rain becomes,
The more you talk about you're rain,
The more it fizzles out.

Eventually you're rain has descended into a crevasse,
In the furthest corner of your mind,
Too small to cause damage,
Too far away to be dangerous.

Thought of so infrequently it's so diminished you begin to believe it ceases to exist;
But it forever remains, always there as a reminder of how you survived.

  • Comment from author about the poem: It's meaning can vary for readers but to me I wrote this thinking of a metaphor and analogy for mental illnesses. You suffer alone in the rain, you can't escape by getting angry. You must have help before you escape into the light. Talk about you're rain and it grows so small it's gone.
