Twinkle

BrutalityPotato

'Twinkle' is one of those words

that fills you with joy as a child,

evoking thoughts of great ventures

where you could be free and be wild.

For adults though twinkling's more suspect

as in the eye it can mean much;

it could express laughter or fear

or joy that you're here

or advertise a violent crutch.

So if you see twinkling this Christmas

get out before you're left alone

with presents and cheer

and ten cans of beer

and an uncle that you hardly know.

    WELCOME FRIEND ~ Thanks for sharing your first poem. Words are always interesting as to heir origin and subtle change of meaning with the passage of time. GAY is a prime example ~ and (as you indicate in your poem ) so is TWINKLE ! I avoided Uncles when they were drunk ~ One of them wanted to show me his TRUNK ! He was referred to as "The Elephant Man". Please check my Poems ~ BRIAN (UK)
