The Morning After.

Garry

We stand as one in beauty

at the ending of the day

and in warm and tender loving

spend the night.

But I greet the dawn with sadness

and an aching in my heart

for when breakfast’s done. my darling,

we must part.

  • Comment from author about the poem: Set off to be a warm and hopeful poem, was going to give it as a present to my wife. The second verse has spoilt that idea. Not a clue where the dark side comes from. Oh well, I still like it but I'll have to seek out chocolates for the present.

It was definitely a good start for something romantic but I like the twist. I love how even the most loving of encounters can last for just a moment. But you had that moment and you can keep it as a good memory long after it's ended. Another nice poem.
