Tune: Golden Sheaves
(\'To thee, O Lord, our hearts we raise\')
Acts 8 v.26-38
*******
Philip [was] called one day to witness
An Ethiopian [to] bless
A treasurer, he returning
Home, worship did the Lord bring
At Jerusalem, His Temple
Was there, His dwelling for all
To see, and Him give songs and praise
And there to learn of His ways
The Spirit said to Philip, Go
Approach the chariot so
Of this treasurer, and he said
Understand you what you read?
He replied, How can I except
One explain to me, adept?
Then Philip on the journey rode
With him to his own abode
The treasurer did read Scriptures
Asking to what it allures
\'He led as a sheep to slaughter
And like a lamb did concur
Being dumb before its shearer\'
He wished the message clearer
\'For lamb was dumb, did not open
Its mouth when it was shorn then\'
And in His humiliation
The lamb for every nation
The Lamb of God, Jesus the Son
Bears the sins of every one
His judgement was taken away
Who shall declare, who shall say
To declare His generation?
He gave His life up, work done
Then Philip did ot Him explain
And made the teaching true, plain
Began at the same Scripture there
Preached Jesus, did with him share
Then at a water was baptised
His faith not hidden, disguised
But said, \'I believe that Jesus
Christ is the Son of God, yes\'
