Amongst the frozen trees that hang low due to the massive loads of slow resting upon their branches,
I walk through the snow covered pathways with my trusty companion,
A beautiful younger husky who’s been with me ever since I’ve entered this world,
The snow crunches with the weight of my boots with every step.
Such quietness in this white wonderland,
Wildlife seeming to be only a fable.
Passing by fallen trees, reaching their arms into the air as if calling for help,
Foot steps cut through the ever growing silence from behind,
I turn seeing nothing more than snow,
Shaking it off I continue to embark on my journey,
Marching through the trees.
Growls,
Eyes,
Wolf,
I’m on the ground, it happen so quick.
The wolf snaps for my neck,
In the nick of time my companion leaps into action knocking the wolf to the side.
I scramble to my feet just as they lock paws once more.
Blood splatters the perfectly white snow,
Tainting it in a vile color.
The wolf clamps onto my dogs side,
It fights with its last hope of life,
I run.
As fast as I can,
I run.
Tears streaming,
I run.
Cold air burning my lungs,
I run.
Right into the rest of the pack.
