The Fast Train

Reality picks up pace
Blurry pictures in your face
Speak of light and hope and truth
Still a haze of mostly blue
Blue like the sky
Or blue like the sorrow?
Today you may fly
But what of tomorrow?

What of the darkness creeping ahead?
What of the whir of unsaid in your head?
When the light from the window is about to go out?
When outside is darkness and inside is out?

Swoosh! And the darkness arrives
But here in the dark it is easy to hide
The Others turn on lights, afraid of the dark
They see your despair as darkness departs
They watch and wonder
In fear and despair
Of your sudden asunder
Their eyes keep you there

Keep you in electric light
Blinded by a light so bright
Blurry paintings were just enough
This new light becomes too much

Swoosh! And the daylight returns
You begin to recover from the heat and the burns
Of a light you were not ready to see
Of a place where you were not ready to be
They watch and they wonder
With love and with hope
Yesterday was just a blunder
In the blurry light of day, no need to elope

Reality picks up pace
Blurry pictures in your face
Speak of light and hope and truth
Still a haze of mostly blue
Blue like the sky
Or blue like the sorrow?
Today you may fly
But what of tomorrow?

What of the darkness creeping ahead?
What of the whir of unsaid in your head?
When the light from the window is about to go out?
When outside is darkness and inside is out?
