Summer Lawns
I charged $20 a lawn
When using my own mower
I was out of school
And making money like never before
Some days it was garden beds
Pulling weeds and planting flowers
Saving the money that I made
At $20-an-hour
I mulched with my mower
And fed the hungry grass
And in two weeks did it over
Until the season passed
Iced tea quenched my thirst
After a job was done
And I soaked my head with a hose
To cool my body some
I saved my hard-earned dollars
From all those summer days
And saw a baseball glove
And put it on layaway
I learned a good work ethic
In mowing those summer lawns
And when I started school
I took it and my glove along
