Walking on my Hands

I remember since I was a little kid, I always wanted to walk on my hands
My older neighbor could do it, and my brother and I would always watch and cheer in excitement
I started trying to learn how in college
I tried over and over
Tumble after tumble, toppling onto the turf below me
Determined to do it, a skill that I sought after so desperately even if I didn’t know why
Then I finally got it, I was able to walk on my hands, a whole new perspective
Except I didn’t have a pair of kids on the sideline, cheering me on in awe as I showed off my balance
I didn’t have adoring fans telling me how cool it was
So in the end I was just still me, staring at the ground
