The Barge

the joy of a bankable memory

sun on river

boys sleeping safely stowed in bunks below

smiles

a whole week

only bright light days

capture this and grasp it tight

a souvenir for dimmer times

a bankable memory

blown out of the water

the shock of the sharp stinging attack

apologies spewing from my mouth

yes I am to blame

i crumple

absorbing the slurring beery onslaught

another hope in me shrinks smaller still

grief for the loss of that bankable memory never stored
