Songbird

Cement

begin with my feelings
and build an empire
create a city
always trying to fly higher
but I’m only an ink spill
covering tattered pages
torn from desperation
while trying to dream up new places
I’m the concrete sidewalk
that you always take for granted
I’m forgotten flower
that no one realized was planted
unremembered and wilted
I’m walked on and inconsequential
with blacked fingertips
my words don’t seem monumental
I’m unnatural yet entirely green
a special kind of race
that only appears when you bother to look
and give the world a little grace
