Barger’s Grocery
I was once a young man employed
And worked hard for the things I enjoyed
With the money I made often spent
On music and fishing back then
I stocked shelves every shift
And sacked groceries quite a bit
The work I found very rewarding
With the public never boring
I ran a cash register some
And found making change quite fun
And my register tray was good
Adding up to what it should
I worked on weekends too
With school friends that I knew
Saving up for their cars
And for gas to drive them far
Mr. Barger was my boss
And when he died a friend i lost
And I recalled the business he built
To buy his wife a scarf of silk
