The Queen\'s English

I\'d like to speak the Queen\'s English

Proclaimed Emily to her mum

I\'ve been practising in my bedroom

With a ripe and juicy plum

I\'m finding it quite tricky

It\'s much harder than it looks

I\'ve eaten every greengage

And balanced all the  books

I wonder how she learnt it

Did she practise from aged three?

Dad said she had a silver spoon

So I guess I\'ll just buy three

I want to speak like the Queen does

And refer to myself as \'one\'

Learn received pronunciation

And say  s c o a n   instead of scone

And maybe when I\'ve learnt it

She\'ll come round on Christmas Day

I could help her with her speech

And then we could have a play

Alternative ending? (said Mum to Emily)

You could teach her YOUR ENGLISH

And use acronyms like HAM

It\'s the dialect of our people

It\'s the voice of the common man
