Heather Harrisson

Virginia

As madness crept up again,
It ate at her insides.
She recognised the evil feelings,
She noticed all the signs.

So instead of hurting him again,
She wrote him out a note,
Explaining why, before, with love,
She placed rocks inside her coat.

She was only trying to help,
To stop spoiling his life,
And assured him of the happiness,
She had felt as his wife.

She made sure he knew the truth,
That he had helped her through.
Saying \"if anybody could have saved me,
It would have been you.\"

As an author she had lost her spirit,
Her ability to write,
She couldn\'t go through it again,
She lost her will to fight.

She refused to keep on going,
When all life brought was pain
And hardship to the man she loved,
There was nothing left to gain.

Hers was a noble death,
With no selfishness involved,
She did what she thought was best,
She was brave and bold.

Yet you mocked her for her courage,
Said she fled the battlefield.
With your self-righteous judgement,
You tore away her shield.

Dragged her name through muddied waters,
Then held aloft for all to see,
Labelling her a freak, a mockery
Of \"those who are suffering bravely.\"

And as if that wasn\'t enough,
To call her a snivelling coward,
You said she betrayed her country,
Her good name you devoured.

But your opinions aren\'t the problem,
Go, be small minded and noxious,
But keep your thoughts to yourselves,
Don\'t spread them around like toxins.

Don\'t use a tragic death
As a way to sell more papers,
By telling the world lies,
Like villainous, unfeeling traitors.

You say what she did was evil,
Leaving husband and country behind,
Just because you couldn\'t see
What was inside of her mind.

Haven\'t you ever heard?
You shouldn\'t speak ill of the dead?
So why do you add more lies,
Keeping vile rumours fed?

Don\'t you think there\'s enough pain,
In this world without you adding more?
You really think that she jumped,
Because of your stupid world war?

Its time that you paid some attention,
Its time that you stopped judging us.
We can stop how our minds work,
As easily as you can a bus.

So stop adding fuel to the fire,
And treating us like we are vermin.
We didn\'t choose to be like this,
Can\'t you see we are hurting?

Enough with your arrogant judgements,
And your uneducated opinions,
But before you do anything else,
Go apologise to Virginia.
