A woman is walking down the street

A woman is walking down the street

Frantic step by step

Just following her feet

Ruffled hair and flickering eyes

The wind blows up her skirt

Revealing mud and dirt

Dark and gloomy is the sky

Big clouds rolling in

Rain tickles down her thigh

Darting and uncomfortable

She seems out of place

And with that she quickens her pace

As the taxis flash by down the road

She dips and hides

Her shoulders hunched bearing a load

With a gasp she looks up

A man storming in front

Snarling with a wavering grunt

He grabs her wrist

She screams

He hits her down with a fist

Battered and worn she falls

Crumples tired and alone

Crying and pleading go home

The cars drive down the high street

Men cross over to the other side

Ignoring the scene they don’t wish to meet

The sound of a rip can be heard

As he drags his woman across the curb

No one butts in or wishes to disturb

In the ally she lays

Beaten and shaken

She closes her eyes and prays

Behind a dustbin

Just out of sight

He moans that’s right

Her husband as it seemed

Drunken anger and lust

Not rape it is deemed

In their home there is a child

Whom watches his mother’s bruises

The court ruled and she loses
