The Angel and the Rat

The Angel,

And the Rat,

For what does holiness want with filth,

And what does the Angel want with a Rat?

It is nothing but the ordinary insignificant creature,

Which has the only job of picking up the scraps of the angel.

What does the Angel\'s beauty want,

What does she want with a repulsive creature,

She wants it gone,

She wants it to stick to its job,

She wants it to keep cleaning the scraps.

And when the Rat wants to rise,

All it can do is fall like the greatest empires.

All the Rat wanted was to be worthy,

All the Rat wanted was to be more than the filth it was,

All the Rat wanted was recognition.

But instead, the Rat stays in its place,

Not because he doesn’t want to move up,

But because he likes to be in the company of the angel.

Because she is the only light,

Shining in the dark.

She is the only light,

That keeps the filth from its end,

She is the only light,

In the world of them,

That shines on him.

So what does Filth want,

If it can’t have her.
