The Miracle

Thunder rolls like an ocean
Over the edge of a coming storm -
Everything breaks apart and falls silent.
Our words slip away and float upward,
Settling among gods.
This is the miracle.
It\'s in the rustling trees
And silver tipped stars -
Constellations whole unto themselves.
What we\'ve awakened is secret and wild.
What we\'ve awakened rises like poison.
If we stop to breathe, we\'ll choke,
That warm burn sliding
Over every pulse beat like liquid fire -
Leaking through seams in the darkness.
Desperation pushes back
Against the heavy air
And becomes our whole world.
There is wonder in it -
Something worth facing death for.
We are new converts before the altar -
Standing rapturous at the storm\'s edge,
And the easiest thing in the world
Is falling right over it.
