A Thousand Miles of Silence

Close the door and put out the light -
You still wear her presence like a scent.
Gray light seeps into the cracks of
A dark and broken prayer,
Its creeping fingers shifting and whispering -
This is where destiny intersects destruction.
There was a time when you would have cared,
But you can\'t touch it anymore.
The earth knows - the ground speaks,
Its voice raising a cloud of ghosts
As the last of our strength
Makes shadows darker than blood.
We are as guilty as the rest,
The sharp scent of regret
Pointing out our failure -
Reaching that hidden place in us
Reserved for suffering.
A thousand miles of silence
Ride our skin like lightning,
And I cannot begin to show a hope
That will never fill the space it leaves
When it\'s taken.
Light sparks in your eyes like a spirit-flame,
Prophesying doom.
The battle is fought -
The field yielded to the young.
