Mended Wing
A meadowlark I kept
In my dad’s old shoe box
He hadn’t healed just yet
And was my pet I thought
Unlike my parakeet
In his cage each day
The meadowlark had been free
And would one day fly away
My dog I still loved
And I petted him all the time
But the meadowlark was from above
And had fallen from the sky
To the sky he would return
After I’d held him close
And with time I learned
He was ready to be let go
His broken wing had mended
From the best of my care
And his recovery with me ended
When he flew away repaired
