School election day

I stand in front of you all

Palms sweating, heart

pounding, facing judgement

from my peers

friends

to in the nicest way possible

tell you why I am better

more qualified

than my more popular

opponent, whom I have no personal

vendetta against.

My shaking knees

only quiver with passion for

this club and people.

My speech only breaks

with intermittent cracks

sobs

because I want nothing more

than to see you succeed.

I\'m nervous to run.

win

My colorless nails

and short brown hair

accompany my long yet

stout legs

and old nerdy sweater.

Meanwhile my opponent stands

calmly, collected, and patient

waiting for me to finish talking

stumbling through.

Her hair cascades down her back

around her thin waist

to her toned legs.

I feel a fire ignite in me

if only I could win

if only I were more popular

if only my friends

family voted for me

but they won\'t.

Can\'t. Because

they like

love her more than me.
