The moment you die

You see the world as a sanctuary

Maybe you\'re in your 80s

90s if you\'re lucky

You think that birds will be chirping

Somewhere far away

As you sit on the porch

Of your lakeside condo

And knit calmly

You pass away with a smile

Plastered on your elderly corpse

and that is when you die.

No.

You die when the light fades

From your slowly greying eyes.

When you stop smiling

at the things you\'ve always loved.

When you stop loving at all.

You die when you see a story

on the news, telling of a little boy,

and you sigh, bored.

You die when there\'s a coin on the ground

blinding you,

and you choose not to pick it up.

When nothing matters,

When everything does.

When your heart breaks,

when your tears burst.

You die the last time you smile.

The last time you remember happiness.

So I ask you,

Are you already dead?
