The storm passed but the water stayed
Bodies floating by like a marching parade
People trapped in houses for days on end
Because help the Government did not send
And on roof tops people waited
Their community with water was inundated
With levees full of holes the water couldn\'t drain
The levees failed because no one maintained
Water lines on houses like a permanent scars
Debris in the trees strange and bizarre
Rotting food and animals starting to compose
The stench in the air filling your nose
On the front of houses X\'s with spray paint
Through the city search teams navigate
Showing the house was searched and what was found
House after house the X\'s compound
Another permanent scar of the of the devastation
Just one step away from complete annihilation
And Governments were completely dumbfounded
As the water rose and everything was surrounded
Rising over the eves with only the roof tops
Were showing when it finally did stop
Complete family history\'s washed away
Another permanent scar in less that half a day
Sudden memories of this event can occur
Mind and memories do not necessarily confer
It could be the simplest objects viewed
Flooding memories return not subdued
Permanent scars of things lost with the water intrusion
Was it replaced or not a state of permanent confusion
It appears the memories will never suspend
Until the days will come to an end
And no formula can determine the pain
That all affected has sustained
It\'s a fact in which we must deal
Permanent scars about how we feel
