Aamina

who did you think i am?

My toned muscles tense as I sprint down the track,

the burning sensation burning up my calves

is a sense of liberation.

as my feet bounce up and down in rhythm

against

the wind.

I trained tirelessly for nothing but this.

to feel the freedom of the ringing

in my ears as I fly

and I fly past my competitors as my body burns breaths now shallow only the end-line in sight

I am stronger than I ever imagined and more than you could ever comprehend,

and I know the picture painted in your mind is a lad running down the track but I just wanted to remind you,

I am a woman.
