WHWEREVER I go in this Old World

If theres a  CAVE I cant resist it

I love the Dark & Quiet & Cold

Love the UNKNOWN ~ I cant desist it !

MY FRIENDS think Im BATS ~ they inhabit CAVES !

I often go alone ~ not recommended

If I slip and fall ~ no one to save

My *One & Only Life* has been expended !

STALACTITES look down and calm my FEARS

STALAGMITES look up and COLUMNS form

Theyve been growing here for years & years & years

Long long before I was ever BORN !

I love to find a passage UNEXPLORED

A place no TROGLODYTE has stepped before

The beauty of the CRYSTALS leave me floored

I sketch & photograph them all in awe !

There are unwritten rules when you are CAVIN*

Take care not to break the JEWELS by misbehavin*

The GUIDES all will announce ~ in sombre tone

No specimens allowed ! Your Geologic Hammer leave at HOME !

Thanks for visiting ~ comments welcome ~ Yours BRIAN  🧡🧡🧡

Ive done most of my POTHOLING ~ CAVING in the Peak District (DERBYSHIRE ~ UK)

It is home to the famous BLUE JOHN MINES ~ a rare mineral only found there.

Like other Minerals and the Stalactites & Stalagmites in UK CAVES ~ it is an offence

to remove any from the CAVES ! Plenty of good specimens are available to purchase at

reasonable prices ~ in the many Mineral Specimen Shops in Matlock and other Towns.

Angela & I love the PEAK DISTRICT and often go for a WEEKEND or Longer !

Not all Countries are so protective of there Mineral Heritage. I was in Yugoslavia and

there was a sign saying *HOLE* !  No Fee no Reception Desk no Guide. I had a

torch so I ventured in. There were lots of  lovely Stalactites & Stalagmites but what

saddened me was that several of the Stalactites had been BROKEN OFF (shock horror)

and were lying trampled on the FLOOR !  Being a Scientist I know the intrinsic value of

shards of rock lying underfoot so I decided to give them a decent BURIAL ! I selected

about SIX to prevent further damage and took them back home ! At College I asked

the GEOLOGY DEPARTMENT if in return for one complete specimen they would slice

others into sections and polish them ~ which they did. The JEWELLERY Department

mounted them on chains and we sold them to the students for £10 ($13) and raised

over £500 ($650) for our COASTAL EROSION FIELD TRIP ! Yours BRIAN  🧡🧡🧡
