I find my reaction to the fact that I just got a year older astounding. I find reminders (remembering?) thinner than air — a lightweight outfit the heart wears. And honest to Allah, I do not know how old I am (so don\'t ask.)
Here\'s another thing: that in all the places Time has so naturally wreath me (which is everywhere BTW. Who can escape time?) I find *my* *now* the only possession I have acquired — most times (sometimes!?). I don\'t do birthdays (probably why I have forgotten how old I am) but I Iove reminders. Beautiful ones are like words in the last fraction of a love letter: you don\'t want it to end. But everything end because everything is borrowed. And so in the borrowed-ness of everything I pray that this thing that I possess — this thing that I am — entails Love, Patience, Understanding. I want them and lot more. No walls can hug their dimension.
So for my birthday, my now, is what I am having.
