No Longer Jazz.

Forty years they had been together,

The six of them,

Playing their instruments.

Once they played jazz,

They still tried,

But have never changed a note

For thirty years.

They could play their instruments,

Play them well,

But it was not jazz.

Jazz is new,

Composed as they play,

But not in this band.

Nothing drew me,

Drew me into the wonder,

The wonder of jazz.

They always played the same,

Jazz is innovative,

This nights music wasn’t,

To me it wasn’t jazz.
