Tune: O Waly Waly
(\'An upper room did our Lord prepare\')
Ecclesiastes 1 v.4-10 (Old Testament)
**************
One generation passes, and then
Another one comes, women, men
And children, but earth abides for e\'er
All mortals time in it do share
The sun arises and then goes down
It shines on every country, town
Then hastes to the place where it arose
Around, around, each day it goes
The wind does blow to the south, then north
Whirls continually, goes forth
The turns again, follows its circuits
Appointed as its path befits
All the rivers run into the sea
Yet the sea is not full, here see
And from the place where the rivers came
They return to that place, the same
All things are full of labour, and man
Of the whole business no one can
Explain it fully, and eye, and ear
Ne\'er content with what they see, hear
What has been, it is that which shall be
What is done shall be done more, see
There be no new thing under the sun
All things have been done, every one
Yet perhaps, anything new there be
On this earth, land, or sky, or sea?
Is all old, all know, all vanity
Without God through all history?
