No More Running, No More Shame

I was injured and you helped me through to the end

Well stop, you think you want to be my friend?

Before you make that call, ask,

What if I will never show you my past?

There are injuries that are only between God and I

If I can help it, with me, they will die.

I’ve had addictions and made mistakes I wish to take to my grave

You don’t need to know the things I did when I was still a slave

You helped me through this injury, enough I cannot thank you

You think you want to stay to have others to see me through?

Before you make that call, ask,

What if I will never show you my past?

I wish I had made better choices, but could you stand me not telling you the wrong I did?

What if every time you tried to look at some of my scars, I hid?

Would you stand by me truly as you would with someone you think you know?

Or is my secrecy too much a blow?

I only do this out of shame, it is not that I do not trust you, could you still trust me wholly?

You say yes, we will walk together through every storm, no matter how fast or slowly

Before you make that call, ask,

What if I will never show you my past?

I was injured, you helped me through to the end

I was a fool to ever think, my best friend,

That I would ever ask

You to run with me away from my past.

I was injured, you helped me through to the end

Well stop, you think we are each other’s closest friend?

Before you make that call, ask,

Can you stand with me as I face my past?
