Tune: Ye Banks And Braes
(\'We cannot measure how you heal\')
Nehemiah 1 v.4-11
**********
Historical note: Nehemiah, a servant to the King of Persia,
and later Governor of the Jews, hears of Jerusalem\'s ruins, and prays:
-----------
I sat down, wept, mourned certain days
For Jerusalem\'s sorry ways
Prayed to the God of heaven, said
I beseech you, LORD, you have led
Your people, you great, terrible
Appearing as awesome to all
You keep covenant and mercy
For those that love you, obey, see
Let your ears hear, and eyes open
To hear my prayer now for all men
I be your servant, and I pray
Before you here in night and day
Your people\'s sins I here confess
And my sins too, come forgive, bless
We have dealt corruptly and not
Obeyed you, this be our poor lot
Remember, LORD, Moses, I pray
And what unto him you did say
That if people be unfaithful
You shall cast them midst nations all
But if they turn to you, obey
Your commands, follow your good way
Where\'er they scattered, you will bring
Them back to your place, they will sing
The place that you have chosen for
Your name LORD to beset there sure* (*Jerusalem)
Now for your servants, your people
I pray, redeemed they, them you call
Saved by your strong hand, now I pray
They who fear, revere you this day
Grant me mercy as I do plead
To the king for your people\'s need
