dusk arising

stood up

Long turned sad,
the cappucino
now bitter to the taste,
no longer graced his
waiting any longer.
Rising then to his feet
shadowy lithe figures
teased past into their night.
This evening\'s darkness
had descended slowly
like the dusted gathering of
windswept autumn leaves
piled unseen in a still corner,
it was now so dark
that only those he might
reach out and touch,
were truly visible to the eye.
Is this how it was to end?
Before it had even begun?
The promise in her smile
had charmed his wanting.
Agreeing had been easy,
too easy.
Across the square
an old friend, the bustling
warm liquor filled aroma of
Jake\'s bar, welcomed.
