Tune: Slane
(\'Be thou my vision\')
Isaiah 40 v.12-18
********
Who has measured the waters in his hand?
And measured out heaven, and too every land?
Who has calculated the dust of the earth?
Weighed out mounts and hills? The Lord, give Him His worth
Who has directed Spirit of the LORD sure?
Who has been His counsellor, taught Him things pure?
What humans did He seek to counsel Him, guide?
No one, for He the LORD, none compares beside
Who has taught Him of judgement and justice?
Or taught Him knowledge? Saying, Right way is this
Who has showed Him the way of understanding?
He ne\'er dependent on anything we bring
Behold, the nations are counted as drop
In a bucket, let all pride, arrogance stop
For they are counted as small dust of the scales
Islands very little, yet His power ne\'er fails
Cedars of Lebanon, though strong and tall
You not suffice to burn, offer to Him all
Nor all beasts of Old Covenant sacrificed
In burnt offerings, His greatness not sufficed
All nations before Him counted nothing
They less than nothing, and vain in everything
To whom then will you liken God? He be great
Omnipotent, reigning in splendorous state
