One Rose Shall Hint When Summer Wakes

One rose shall hint when summer wakes

The hue the rose will not forsake

Nor shades in time each part partake

Of peddles and their crimson tears

And with the roses blossom sweet

Shall cast in secret where summer meets

Each lover so redolently

No shade nor haunt shall thus aghast

Though still they haunt the very past

Of all that love shouldst ever ask

For there I find my sorrow sleeps

As deep as memories made of eves

When summer in the sunlight sings

To hint of what romance might bring

Sometimes a heart in beating makes

More than all that is not free

More than all when meant to be

A lover in a lover’s arms

And moments that not death forsakes

One rose shall hint when summer wakes

One crimson silent gasp of truth

A kiss no time can yet remake

Nor in its shadows thus waylay

The very thought of thorns and crowns

And love so placed upon the brow
