The ambient candle

Threw shadows, lifelike

Round the walls

Like I was not alone

“You won’t, you can’t or you daren’t”

Said George Gordon

“Bigots fools and slaves”

And Napoleon shall

Never leave Saint Helena

Now

Life always gives

An angel share

“Let him make his mistakes”

He whispered as

His famous curl was

Straight and limp

“We are both statesmen”

“The sword is”?

“Dirtier than the pen”

“We shall destroy this world”

“No, his candle will not last that long”

And the night ended

As it began
