I walk along the beach where the remnants of
once mighty waves reach to lose themselves
in thousand year old grains of sand, each
step leaving a fleeting impression of my foot
a metaphor for our ephemeral lives
like my foot prints, my life will be lost and forgotten
replaced by new impressions and new life
but like the sand, the fabric of life will endure
the wind carries with it the voice of my mother
the sound of the breaking waves waking memories
rocking in her arms, listening to her gentle lullabies
the warm water swirling around my toes
evoking faint feelings of childhood bath pleasures
white clouds painted haphazardly into the blue sky
triggering flashes of recognition, of pleasures
thought to have faded into oblivion a long time ago
I step into the ocean, into the gentle rolling swells
inhaling the heady smell of the unfathomable sea
the warm salty water cuddling me like a womb
releasing primeval sensations of belonging and being
at one with the mystical wonder of creation
my mind feels at home, comfortable, loved
Irrevocable surrender to the beauty of existence
Unquestionable acceptance of the miracle of life
