Without you
It never seemed a wrongful thing
staying late that summer night.
The party roared into the dark
beer and whiskey flowed free and loose
friends were falling over one another.
We slept over that summer night
but, come the morning, I realized
I’d stayed over without you.
We went to see her several times.
Her name was Emmy Lou.
A friend of ours from teenage years
who learned to drink while in high school.
We slept over a couple times
to help her make it through the night
but, come those mornings, I realized
I’d stayed over without you.
You came over that final night
to see if it was true
and caught me sleeping with Emmy Lou.
That’s all that I remember of that night
but come the morning I realized
I’d be spending forever...
Without you.
Now, I’m alone day and night dreaming...
about you.
