Tune: Rockingham
(\'When I survey the wondrous cross\')
Matthew 26 v.6-13
*********
When Jesus was in Bethany
He was in Simon\'s house, we see
Then came unto Him a woman
She had a flask of ointment then
It very precious and costly
An alabaster flask it be
She poured it all on Jesus\' head
But disciples indignant said
What purpose is this waster, Why not
Sell it for much to help poor\'s lot?
When Jesus knew, He said, Why do
You her trouble? Good she does do
For you have poor with you always
But I am not with you all days
Here it be right, for she has poured
Out ointment, worshipped, and adored
She did it for my burial
Prepared me for when that day fall
And wheresoever this gospel
Be preached in this world, \'e\'en to all
There also shall it too be told
Of this woman\'s deed, free and bold
Be told for a memorial
Of her, her gracious witness all
