Illimitable Love (from “The Blessings of Poetry”)

Meted out to Addie, Denise, Carole and Cynthia, could only be on the opposite end of the spectrum measured by hateful flesh,

It left a gaping wound greater than five feet wide and two feet deep in the hearts and minds of generations to come, as I digress.

Fast forward 57 years and our indelible mark left on the annals of society are highlighted in white out, but the ink of blood soaks through,

The surface barely scratched in schools and these recurring machinations of the lion telling the giraffes tale are said to be true.

We are told don’t question, don’t make too much noise. But we are tinged with anger, refusing to believe we manifested from jungle creatures,

We climbed so our whispers could be heard from the peaks of Mt Mitchell to the caps of Mt Rainier with it’s scintillating features.

As time nears we reach our inevitable end, but share we shall our triumphs and tears with offspring so they can discuss,

No longer will they continue to enjoy our discomfiture in our own skin, but as I digress, we must remember “we love because He first loved us.” (1 John 4:19 NIV)
