dusk arising

this priceless cost

Evening takes me to the clifftop.
where the shimmering reflections
of moonlight on the water
turn back a page to the that
starlit sparkle of your eyes.
Way beyond the excitement
of this nightime stroll
to those dark seductive places
where you lips, soft on mine
gave fuel to the fire
you set inside me.

The cool wind speaks of the years
of truth decaying my will to forget.
Solitary above the shoreline
walking this palliative path
the truth fades into ridicule
confronted with memories
which twist and turn over
years of unanswered questions.
Better to have loved and lost
for this, priceless cost.
