Immured
Stretched out in the back of the large black vehicle
on the way to his immurement
he was trying hard to free his spirit
to leave it outside of this his final resting place.
Perhaps he would be able to sense its freedom
from within, whatever would remain of him.
The vehicle rolled to a slow and somber stop.
The back opened and they pulled him out.
A small crowd had gathered to pay respect
or other sentiments
He wished he had led a fuller life
with more friends than haters
but it was not to be.
Now that his life is over
he has nothing but regrets.
A few words were spoken.
People shared a parting whisper
or maybe a prayer.
Some for sure
were silently saying ,”Good Riddance.”
Once through the gate and inside the walls
he glanced back for a final look
at the world he will no longer know.
That life had ended as he begins his
“Life” sentence.
