DIGITAL DEVOTION

Will an e-mail give you pleasure,

Twenty years from now?

Make your heart beat faster,

When downloaded from the cloud.

All those texts you sent each other,

Long since vanished in the air.

Which held digital attachments,

Or photos, if you prefer.

All those memories are so fragile,

And once lost, are never found.

But there is a good alternative,

And it’s so simple; it will astound.

You will no longer need connection,

And so save that monthly fee.

No computer, printer or scanner.

It’s incredible; just wait and see.

The Victorians called them letters,

And you will only need four things.

A pen, some paper, an envelope,

And the pleasure that it brings.

Your connection fee is just a stamp,

Which are very easy to obtain,

And your attachment, a real photograph,

Can be included all the same.

The person that you send it too,

Will reread it in twenty years.

Not only will their heart beat faster,

Their eyes might fill with tears.

Although the paper may yellow,

And the ink will fade in time.

It’s something solid and very real,

And you’ll be proud to say ‘It’s mine’.
