A man of the present
Battles a fearsome foe of the past
To save a little boy
And protect an old man of the future
They say, “Time heals all wounds”
But not always true, this I say
So quickly the past awakes
Daggers of anger thrown in haste
Only to be recalled in apology
And reused again another day
Eternal guilt
Helplessness
Numbness
Exhaustion
Confusion
Bills to be paid
Responsibilities of employment
And desires of the heart
Can I make it all work?
Dear ones wish to help
Reassurances of self-worth
Fear of uncertainty
Questioning what’s real or not
Bad memories of younger days
When and where does it end?
